Ausangate Trek 4 Days – Itinerary

Day 1: Cusco – Tinki – Upis Hot Springs

Your Ausangate Trek begins early in the morning with private transportation from Cusco to Tinki, a traditional Andean village located near the starting point of the trek.

Cusco – Tinki

During the journey, enjoy spectacular views of the Vilcanota Mountain Range and pass through traditional communities and highland landscapes. There will be opportunities to stop for photographs and appreciate the local scenery.

Breakfast in Tinki

Upon arrival in Tinki, enjoy breakfast while the muleteers organize the group's camping equipment and luggage.

Trek to Upis

The trek then begins through agricultural communities and impressive mountain landscapes. Hike for approximately 3 hours before stopping for lunch.

After lunch, continue trekking for approximately 2 more hours until reaching Upis (4,100 m / 13,451 ft).

Upis Hot Springs

In the afternoon, relax in the natural Upis hot springs, surrounded by spectacular views of the Andes. After dinner, spend the night at the campsite.

Day 2: Upis – Arapa Pass – Pucacocha

After breakfast, begin one of the most spectacular sections of the Ausangate Trek.

Upis – Arapa Pass

The trail gradually ascends toward Arapa Pass (4,850 m / 15,912 ft). From the pass, enjoy breathtaking views contrasting the dry high-altitude landscapes with the snow-covered peaks of Ausangate Mountain, the highest mountain in the Cusco region.

Pucacocha Lakes

Continue through an area surrounded by beautiful glacial lakes, including Pucacocha, Hatun Pucacocha, and Qomercocha, whose waters display striking shades of turquoise, green, and red.

Camp Near Pucacocha

After enjoying the scenery and taking photographs, continue toward the second campsite near Pucacocha Lake, located close to the Ausangate Glacier.

Spend the evening surrounded by dramatic mountain scenery before dinner and a well-deserved rest.

Day 3: Pucacocha – Ausangate Pass – Minasniyuq Pass – Surinecocha

Day three is considered one of the most spectacular stages of the Ausangate Trek.

Pucacocha – Ausangate Pass

After breakfast, begin an approximately 1.5-hour ascent toward Ausangate Pass (4,930 m / 16,175 ft).

From the pass, enjoy panoramic views of colorful mountains and the surrounding high-altitude landscapes. Depending on conditions, you may also have the opportunity to observe vicuñas, alpacas, and other Andean wildlife.

Descent to Alccatauri

Continue descending for approximately 2 hours toward Alccatauri (4,400 m / 14,436 ft), a traditional Andean community where you can learn more about local life and culture.

Minasniyuq Pass

After visiting the community, continue with a short uphill section of approximately 30 minutes toward a rustic lodge where lunch will be served.

In the afternoon, continue toward Minasniyuq Pass, reaching approximately 5,020 m / 16,470 ft.

From here, enjoy your first impressive views of the colorful Rainbow Mountain landscapes and, according to local traditions, participate in a respectful offering to Pachamama.

Descent to Surinecocha

Finally, descend for approximately 1 hour toward Surinecocha (4,800 m / 15,748 ft), where you'll spend the night beside the beautiful Surine Lake.

Day 4: Surinecocha – Rainbow Mountain – Quesiuno – Cusco

After breakfast, begin the final day of your Ausangate Trek to Rainbow Mountain.

Surinecocha – Rainbow Mountain

Hike gradually uphill for approximately 2 hours until reaching Vinicunca, the famous Rainbow Mountain, located at approximately 5,020 m / 16,470 ft.

Explore Rainbow Mountain

At the viewpoint, take time to admire the spectacular multicolored landscape created by different mineral deposits.

Your professional guide will explain the geological characteristics of the mountain and help you find the best viewpoints for photographs.

Rainbow Mountain – Quesiuno

After enjoying Rainbow Mountain and the surrounding Andes, begin the descent toward Quesiuno. The approximately 2.5-hour descent takes you through the impressive Red Valley, offering a completely different perspective of the high-altitude landscape.

Quesiuno – Cusco

Upon reaching Quesiuno, enjoy lunch before meeting your private transportation for the return journey to Cusco.

Arrive in Cusco at approximately 6:00 PM, marking the end of your unforgettable 4-Day Ausangate Trek and Rainbow Mountain adventure.

El Tour Caminata al Ausangate de 4 días y 3 noches es una experiencia inolvidable de trekking en la región de Cusco, Perú, recorriendo la imponente Cordillera de los Andes. Esta travesía desafiante te llevará a través de paisajes de alta montaña, glaciares, lagunas turquesas y valles rodeados de llamas y alpacas. Con altitudes que superan los 5.000 metros, es una ruta ideal para amantes del senderismo y la naturaleza, ofreciendo vistas espectaculares y una conexión única con la cultura andina.

Dia 1: Cusco – Tinki – Upis (Baños Termales)

Temprano en horas de la Mañana salimos de Cusco, viajando en nuestro transporte privado en dirección al pequeño pueblo de Tinqui. Veremos la impresionante cordillera de Vilcanota y pasaremos por varios pueblos andinos tradicionales en ruta y tomaremos tiempo para detenernos para tomar algunas fotos. Cuando llegamos a tendremos un tiempo para el desayuno. Es ahí donde nuestros arrieros arreglarán todo el equipaje del grupo y los paquetes para los caballos y nuestra caminata comienza oficialmente.
Comenzamos nuestro paseo por las comunidades agrícolas y disfrutamos de las impresionantes vistas de las montañas. Caminaremos por alrededor de 3 horas y luego su tiempo para una parada de almuerzo. Después del almuerzo continuamos por otras 2 horas para llegar a Upis (4,100 msnm). Allí tendremos la oportunidad de bañarnos en las aguas termales locales antes de la cena, y acampar por la noche en este lugar.

Dia 2: Upis – Paso Arapa – Pucacocha

Después de un gran desayuno estamos listos para salir de nuestro campamento y comenzar nuestra caminata para el día. Ascenderemos al Paso Arapa (4,850 msnm). Desde este paso disfrutaremos del contraste entre el desierto seco como las colinas y las impresionantes vistas cubiertas de nieve del pico Nevado más Alto de la Ciudad del Cusco, el Ausangate y también ´podremos divisar la laguna de Pucacocha. Esta área también cuenta con tres hermosos lagos con tonos de rojos, verdes y turquesas (Pucacocha, Hatun Pucacocha y Qomercocha). Nuestro segundo campamento está cerca del glaciar de Ausangate a orillas de la laguna Pucachocha.

Dia 3: Pucacocha – Ausangate – Surine Cocha

Este va a ser uno de los días más hermosos de la caminata. Veremos las montañas del arco iris a la distancia. Además, pasaremos por el pueblo de Alccatauri, donde veremos la vida tradicional de la comunidad. El día comienza con un ascenso de 1 hora y media hasta llegar al paso de Ausangate (4,930 msnm). En este paso, veremos montañas rojas y también tendremos la oportunidad de ver vicuñas, chinchillas y alpacas. Después de disfrutar del paso, descenderemos por 2 horas hasta llegar al pueblo de Alccatauri (4,400 msnm). Durante nuestro tiempo en el pueblo, daremos regalos de hojas de coca a los lugareños. Esto es muy valioso porque este alimento básico peruano no se puede cultivar en este clima.Después de esta experiencia incomparable, haremos una caminata adicional de 30 minutos cuesta arriba a nuestro lugar de almuerzo en un albergue rústico.
Luego de un almuerzo satisfactorio, comenzaremos nuestro viaje hasta el paso Minasniyuq. Aquí tendremos nuestras primeras vistas de las montañas del arco iris (5.020 msnm). En este paso, haremos ofrendas a la Pacha Mama (Madre Tierra).
El resto del recorrido del día es una caminata de una hora de descenso a nuestro campamento, Surine Cocha (4,800 msnm). El campamento está en las orillas del magnífico Lago Surine.

Dia 4: Surinecocha – Vinicunca – Quesiunu – Cusco

Luego del desayuno, caminamos gradualmente por 2 horas hasta llegar a la famosa Montaña Arco Iris (5,020 msnm). Nuestro guía le llevará a los mejores lugares para obtener las imágenes perfectas de estas increíbles montañas y las otras montañas circundantes. Su guía explicará lo que hace que estas montañas sean tan únicas: están compuestas de varios minerales, que hacen diferentes colores de la Montaña. No sólo es este uno de los lugares más impresionantes en Perú y América del Sur, este tipo de montañas se ven en sólo otro país en el mundo, China.
Después de tomar fotos y disfrutar de la vista, continuaremos en la caminata hasta llegar a Quesiuno. Esta es una caminata de descenso de 2 horas y media por el valle rojo. Almorzaremos allí.
Nuestro Transporte privado estará esperando para recogernos en este pueblo después del almuerzo. A continuación, retornaremos a la ciudad del Cusco. La hora aproximada de llegada es a las 6 pm.

Es importante mantenerse hidratado, por lo que se sugiere consumir al menos 2-3 litros de agua al día. Algunas agencias pueden vender agua embotellada en ciertos puntos del recorrido.
